If you will use an account for weeks, a one-time number is not enough; but picking the longest period is not always the smartest move either. The longest rental period offered is 1 month (30 days), and it is not available in every country or for every service. In some countries a monthly offer costs much more than a weekly one and may come without a cancellation option. This guide helps you choose the right period for your needs and avoid losing the account when the period ends.

On some weekly and monthly offers the fee is final the moment the number is issued. The period window and confirmation say "no cancellation"; on these offers there is no refund if no code arrives.
Extension options and prices are set by the server that issued the number; some numbers cannot be extended at all. If you plan to start short and extend, factor in that risk.
A long-term number is for accounts that keep asking for SMS codes after sign-up: messaging apps that request a code on every new-device login, SMS flows in a test or development project that runs for weeks, the first weeks of a marketplace or classifieds account, or a second number during a long trip. For messaging apps we have detailed guides: rental number for WhatsApp and rental number for Telegram.
Permanent, personal accounts do not belong on that list. Banking, payments and official services tied to your identity expect the same number for years; when a rental ends, that link breaks. Use your own line for these accounts; bank and payment SMS may not reach rental numbers anyway.
Starting short has two advantages. First, offers with free cancellation before the first SMS are more common on shorter periods, so if the number does not work for your service, the money returns to your balance. Second, you do not pay a large amount before seeing whether the account really needs weeks. The downside is that extension is not guaranteed: if the option does not appear, the number leaves you at the end of the period.
Choosing 1 month outright locks in that the number stays yours for 30 days and removes the risk of forgetting to extend. But some monthly offers are non-cancellable and prices vary widely by country. A practical rule: if you know the account will live longer than a month, plan from the start to move it to a permanent number; the rental period buys you time for that move.
A rental does not renew by itself and nothing is charged to your balance automatically; to extend, you use the "Extend" button before the period ends. When the period expires, the number leaves you and may later be rented to another user. So on every account you will keep, turn on protection that does not depend on the number: two-step verification, a recovery email or backup codes. If you can, change the account's number to a permanent line before the period ends.
The full fee, cancellation and refund rules for rental numbers are in the what is a rental virtual number guide. For a one-off verification, you can read why free virtual number sites usually fail and when a one-time number is enough.
| Situation | Suggested | Why |
|---|---|---|
| One-off sign-up, no codes expected later | One-time number | Lower cost than renting; refunded automatically if no code arrives. |
| You will move the account to another device within days | 1 day or 3 days | Short offers, usually with a free cancellation window. |
| A test or setup lasting a few weeks | 1 week, extend if needed | Flexible; if extension does not appear you can change plans early. |
| The number must stay yours for a full 30 days | 1 month | You do not depend on extensions; read the cancellation rule and price before confirming. |
| The account will be used for months or years | Rental, then move to a permanent line | The rental buys time for the move; permanence comes from your own line. |
Each cell is the starting price among the countries in stock for that period; the cheapest weekly and monthly offers may be in different countries. The cancellation rule depends on the offer and shows once you pick a period on the rental number page.

No. There is no auto-renewal and no automatic charge. To extend, use the "Extend" button before the period ends.
Not always. Price depends on the country and offer; in some countries the monthly offer costs much more than four weekly ones. Compare the live table on this page with the country prices on the rental number page.
It depends on the offer. On monthly offers that allow cancellation, you can cancel and get a refund within the free window and before the first SMS. On non-cancellable monthly offers the fee is final as soon as the number is issued.
Not necessarily. Extension options and prices are set by the server that issued the number and are shown in the "Extend" window. The fee is taken when you confirm in that window, which opens after the first SMS or once the free cancellation window ends.
There is no way to do that; an expired number returns to the pool and there is no guarantee it will be issued to you again. To keep it, extend before the period ends.
